I never realized when I bought my first iPad that it would have such a profound impact on my life. I would compare it to the first PC that I bought in 1995. It isn’t a replacement for anything because it’s a whole new kind of device. I use it every single day (sometimes for hours on end). Unlike my desktop computer or laptop, it’s compact and very portable. I love that I can sit in bed in the morning or at night when I can’t sleep and hold it in my hands just like a book. I can slip it in my purse and take it with me if I go out somewhere where I might want to use it. It’s much easier to take on a trip compared to a laptop. It’s right there when I’m sitting at the kitchen table or in my chair. I just pick it up and look something up on the Internet. Compared to my laptop, the screen resolution of my iPad 3 is crystal clear thanks to the retina display.

I use my iPad for many purposes including surfing the web, checking and sending e-mail, reading newspapers and magazines, taking pictures and videos, making shopping and to-do lists, playing games, watching TV shows or Netflix when I’m away from home, clipping and archiving articles or anything of interest, tracking my spending, finding recipes, checking the weather, getting driving directions, listening to podcasts, etc.

I love my iPad!

If you have an iPad or tablet, how has it changed your life? How do you use it?

I watched all of The Wire on my tablet (Google Nexus10) via HBOGo. That alone was worth the price!

Other than that, I use it more as a smaller, handier version of my desktop. I still prefer the latter for many things, though. I have a 20" monitor and can work on two Word docs side-by-side, for example. And I much prefer typing on a real keyboard. But the tablet is great when I don’t want to be in my home office but still want to use the web. Plus I can play Words with Friends on it. :)

I mostly use mine to read books/magazines, play games (so hooked on Solitaire right now), and watch Netflix or HBO Go. I don’t love it for facebook, the ipad app is kind of crummy, and I don’t love it for anything that requires me to type more than a word or two. I did get my husband one of the keyboards that attaches to the ipad, and he loves it because it has eliminated him needing to take his laptop when he travels for business.

It’s useful for reading email, or reading articles on the web, or playing games. It’s not good for typing, as you can’t touch type and tend to look at the keys. Then you look up to find autocorrect totally changed most of what you typed, and you have to start over. Also, if I want a really good look at a picture, I need to use my imac with the bigger screen.

I am reading the expedition account of the 1921 British Reconnaissance expedition thru Tibet to survey Mt. Everest in preparation for an attempted climb the following year:

I downloaded a couple Coen brothers movie rentals in case we lost power in the snow storm, but power stayed on and I watched Fargo on the big screen TV instead.

My husband and I share our iPad and usually leave it upstairs in the bedroom. We each have a laptop, but no desktop in the house; the iPad is used in the evening once we head up to bed to read or surf. I use it as my Kindle as my husband took mine.

I also take it when we travel and no longer bring my laptop with me.

I use mine a lot for meal planning and shopping and all the other “usual” things.

I also use mine to produce some music (drum tracks) and as a portable keyboard. Also use it as a remote control device for our sound system in the sanctuary of our church (we can actually adjust blend and balance and equalization of the sound during a service from the choir loft or from the congregation!!); I can also use the ipad as a stage monitor or to cue and control audio/visual elements during a choir presentation.

The other thing is that my almost-4 year old grandson loves playing with various games and interactive books on it. He has his own “folder” of things he can do completely on his own or with his Nanna playing along. :)

Email, Pinterest, EBay, Facebook, NYT subscription, camera to take pictures to put on FB, a Kindle app to download free books from state/town library system, through Amazon. Movies, magazines, TV shows I have not tried yet. I am never without my tablet…

I like to add things to my gmail calendar from it - it’s larger than my phone and so I can enter easier yet it synchs with all my devices. Great for FaceTime. And of course many of the above mentions.

It’s definitely one of my most prized possessions.

I am an iPad addict. Got my husband one for his bday, got my DD one for Christmas. I am like a drug pusher. Can hardly remember life without it. Now, like when I was using an electric breast pump, I fear an extended power outage.TMI?

Instead of using that clumsy FB app, access FB through safari. You can then tap the box with the arrow at the top left of Ipad screen. Select “add to home screen” and you can go the the FB you know and love from your laptop/desktop. You also will have an icon on your homescreen to make future visits to FB easier.
This I learned on CC.
