How does a degree from UC San Diego look?

More specifically a poli sci degree with a minor in econ

will i be able to get a good job or go to a ivy grad school with good grades?

you can go to any ivy league from any university if you work hard enough. I saw some dude in a top program who got his BA from CSULA. Anything’s possible.

as far as jobs go, what are you looking to get into? In this department, school names might mean something, but i doubt it’ll make or break the deal. Employers will most likely want hands-on experience (which i imagine you’ll lack unless you take internships.)

Coming from someone with an Econ degree from UCSD I can tell you nobody really cares that you went there or even knows that it’s a good school.

The only people who may be impressed that you went to UCSD are California college students who are familiar with the school. Outside of Cali people don’t really know the school (sad but true).

That being said, I did land a great gig right after graduation with the federal government not because anyone was impressed with UCSD but because I’m a vet with a degree. Many of my co-workers have degrees from University of Phoenix and places like that.

I’m proud of my degree because I busted my ass for it at a really tough school but I personally don’t feel it gave me much of an advantage in my job search.

It also depends on your GMAT (for MBA) or LSAT (for law school) scores. Ace that and you’ll have a decent shot. UCSD is a very good school, heck I chose it over UCLA. According to Forbes UCLA and UCSD grads earn around the same amount.
