I am transferring form my local community college to the University of Minnesota, I was accepted a couple of months ago.
I enrolled in summer classes at my CC, and have an unpaid tuition bill that was posted to my account as of yesterday. I am planning on paying it in early September, when I have the money. How will the University of Minnesota know that I have an unpaid tuition bill? I know that my CC doesn’t report unpaid tuition to collections until about a year after the semester has finished. Do they report unpaid tuition to all local schools at some point? I don’t need my summer transcript, I am already accepted into the U, except that I have not yet registered. Will this prevent me from registering?

It may not. Schools do tend to have their own systems in doing this. The thing is, you may need your final transcript from the CC to get the classes transferred over, and if the school will shut you down on all of this with an unpaid balance. My kids have had to get things sent over multiple times from prior or summer sessions. Also if you are getting fin aid there could be tracking that way.

So get some payment arrangement going. If you already have sent your the transcripts with transfer classes already, this may not be an immediate issue if UM has not lost the transcript or another direct verification is needed for any reason.

They may just withhold your transcript. This will likely be a pain when you have to pay for courses that you already have the credit for.
