How does being a dorm CA affect FA

My daughter will be a CA next year. We were very excited that she’d receive free room (but no board). Her preliminary FA package includes grants, work study, and loans. We are now hearing rumors that her work study will be eliminated and her grant will be reduced to equal the value of the cost of room. Now feeling like the CA position is not such a great deal after all. Her work-study UROP was a great opportunity last year, and she planned on continuing. Working in the lab with out the paycheck is a disappointment. Any insight on dorm positions and their impact on Financial Aid?

I believe that it is considered similar to a scholarship - counting against loans, and then work study before countingn against grants. Please call the FA office to get the most accurate answer.

Thank you. I did call the FA office today and yikesyikesyikes is correct. Housing will notify FA and financial aid will be mortified. First direct subsidized loans will be eliminated, then work study, and finally grants will be adjusted to equal the savings for housing. Working as a CA or RA isn’t the savings we had anticipated.
