I have credit for some CC courses that pair specifically to some classes in one major at a university (basically counts as the credit for that course). If I applied for a different major that does not use that credit, can it give me credit for anything else, or is it useless? Also, if I get into a college with major “X” but change it afterwards to major “Y” and I have CC credits for major “Y,” could the credits still be used then, or do they have to be used immediately upon admission? I’m a bit confused, and any insight is much appreciated
Also is CC for enrichment the same as DE in terms of how it looks to adcoms? How would it be different? Thanks again
If your credits are accepted for transfer they will be recorded on your college transcript. Depending on your eventual choice of cmajor, they might apply to your major or just to your general education requirements.
So if I were to originally choose an econ major upon admission, but later switch to CS, would my CS CC course credit be applicable then, even though I was admitted as an econ major?
The major that you apply with has nothing to do with whether or not your credits transfer. That is determined by a different office entirely.
If you have credits that apply for a different major, and you switch to that major, the credits will apply.
What matters is that you pay close attention to this. For example, if you have 66. total transferrable credits, and the college only accepts a maximum of 60, the specific courses that you ask to be included among the credits transferred might be different depending on your particular major. In that case, if you were to change your major, you might need to go back to the credit office and ask them to swap out a course that applied to the first major, and include instead a course that applies to the second major.
Some colleges will only give you a limited number of credits toward the number needed to graduate, but allow all transferred course work to count for subject credit.
For example, UC policy is stated at http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/transfer/advising/transferring-credits/index.html#ccc (note: OP appears to be in California).
Oh, I see. In terms of what counts for credit though, if the CC course is UC-transferrable but does is not directly equivalent to a course on the articulation agreement on ASSIST, then would it not count or would it simply count but just not replace any course? Thanks!!
It would count as credit units up to the 70 semester unit or 105 quarter unit maximum.
It may also count for more generic subject requirements. E.g. a transferable history course that is not directly equivalent to anything may count toward a requirement that specifies a history course but does not require a specific one. But check with the campus, division, or major department to verify whether it is true for your situation.
