Title petty much says it all–how does Georgetown do in job placement when it comes to Investment Banking? What companies recruit on campus? What GPA is generally necessary for a job? Are students in the college at a disadvantage when competing with kids from the business school? Any insight would be greatly appreciated :)

GTown is decent but about same caliber as UChic and Duke, both of which offer academic scholarships and sports scholarships. Basically if IB is the goal, you can get better bang for the buck elsewhere.

Are you referring to recruiting for investment banks (i.e. S&T, research, and banking) or just to the investment banking division? Either way, all the BBs recruit at Georgetown for all the divisions…

Generally the minimum GPA cutoff is 3.5 (but with some exceptions), kids from the SFS and College (econ) are just as competitive as kids from the MSB. You need a solid GPA, good work experience, and need to network.

Sophomore: Just econ majors? What about others, like comp science?

Never say never… but it’s tough for some majors (i.e. sociology) to convince interviewers that they suddenly became interested in finance (but didn’t bother to switch majors) and some majors in the COL are notorious for grade inflation… whereas the MSB and Econ have mandatory curves… trust me if you want to do banking, in the MSB (finance and accounting), in COL (economics, maybe some sort of math), SFS (one of the economics related majors)…

All the big firms recruit, and from all majors (if you can impress them). I’ve had friends in COL, MSB, and SFS all land jobs/internships in IB. I remember a statistic from somewhere that Georgetown was 4th in terms of percentage of grads in finance/IB but I don’t know if that true or not, so don’t quote me on it.

Yeah Georgetown has a lot of people on Wall Street and I think the statistic you’re referring to might be when firms come and announce that Georgetown is one of their top represented schools (or something similar)… but that includes all divisions (including operations, where in some firms there are a lot of alums)… it varies from firm to firm how many Georgetown kids they take each year, some firms last year (note 2009 was the worst recruiting year in awhile) took 4 SA for banking, while others only took 1 SA.
