How does Grade Deleted by Petition work?

I have a transcript from back in the mid-80’s from CSU Sacramento with a course that denotes “Grade Deleted by Petition” underneath the course description, but still shows an “F” grade? CSUS hasn’t responded back to my query and CSU Fullerton has entered it into their system with an “F” during the admissions application process. I thought deleted meant deleted?

Fullerton should not have entered it in their system, it would seem to me. You can try to address this with Sacramento but if it says “deleted” on the transcript it should not be in your GPA or used by admissions, regardless of whether the original grade shows or not. It was officially deleted.

Check with Sacramento by all means but tell Fullerton admissions it was deleted. Maybe the person entering it in the system didn’t notice-?!

@compmom I called CSUF Evaluations last week to discuss the mis-entered information I noticed in my audit. They were, for one thing, surprised that I could see the audit data, and secondly told me that it was the system automating it which I found hard to believe because of the numerous typos. They were not that friendly when speaking to me. Additionally, courses have not fallen into their proper GE category, as well as another course number mis-entered as a remedial course (entered as a 1 vs 141). Either they’re not that thorough in the beginning or they’re extremely tired and overworked during the admissions process.

What does “the system automating it” mean? They entered the F in the system because they cannot put a verbal phrase like “grade deleted” in the system? There should be no grade at all, right? Maybe get someone to call for you. All the schools want students to advocate for themselves but when an adult calls, whether an advisor or even a parent, they seem to pay more attention.

hahaha I’m 50 years old LOL  You just made my day! But maybe I can get my advisor at my CC to call. Thanks for that bit of advice.

My CC academic adivsor referred my to my CC transfer center who referred me directly to CSUF stating that I should argue the case because it’s right on the transcript and they’re simply rushing and not paying attention.

One other thing I learned today that has probably been re-iterated on this forum over and over… and this is your academic records never get deleted, just noted (according to my CC advisor). So with that in mind, I pass these tips onto you:

  1. Make sure you understand and know the policies of the college/univerisity you’re attending
  2. Get things done BEFORE the deadlines
  3. Follow-thru with things fully (add, drops, changes, etc.) don’t just rely on the system
  4. Validate that all changes are complete ASAP
  5. If you contest or petition anything afterwards, make sure it is within the allotted time (1 year usually)

and lastly, but most preferrably…

DON’T SCREW UP!!!

It’ll haunt you for the rest of your life…
