how does it compare???

does coming from a liberal arts school like williams or amherst give you the same chance at being accepted at top schools compared to john hopkins, u of chicago and other such schools?

The school you come from really doesn’t matter unless you are coming from the top-most tier (i.e. Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford). Of course, since the smartest people in the world attend these universities, this also has something to do with their high acceptance rates, but I would be willing to bet that students from these schools get a nudge. What is important is your involvement at your school. One advantage of any small school like a LAC is the small class size, allowing you to get to know your professors well enough that they can write great letters of recommendation for you, but let me reiterate what has been said before, what college you attend really doesn’t have much bearing on where you can compete for medical school. Let’s not forget that the University of Alabama had more Rhodes Scholars than Harvard last year (Didn’t you see those horrible commercials insinuating that Alabama was on the same plain as Harvard, if you didn’t count yourself lucky), the important thing is taking care of business wherever you go and making sure to do well on the requirements.

yes, what’s up with UA? They produced more Rhodes Scholars than Harvard last year AND have more students chosen to the USA today academic team.

First, Rhodes scholars are assigned based on region of the country, so it’s likely that Harvard kids have more competition than UA kids.

Second, it’s a percentage thing. I’m assuming UA is considerably bigger than Harvard.
