I am currently a high school junior and University of Michigan is my dream school. I attend the 2nd best public high school Michigan. My unweighted GPA is 3.96 and my first try ACT score with no prep was a 30, I am in a class now and will retake it. I am currently in the IB program and take 6 IB classes and 2 honors. I was wondering how Michigan views IB students during admission. Could anyone tell me if it’s equivalent to AP or maybe even better?

They view you in the context of what your high school offers and what you took for classes. Whether it is a high school that offers IB or a high school that offers IB and AP or a high school that has only AP or one that has neither your GPA and the rigor of your curriculum along with your standardized test scores are important. Your GC should know the history of those that applied and those that were accepted. Talk to your GC.

I wouldn’t stress out so much. Your GPA, ACT and class rigor are fine.

Ibstudent, while it generally depends on the quality of the specific program, IB from a well-regarded school is likely to strengthen your candidacy overall. IB is rarer than the ubiquitous AP and generally well-regarded for the critical depth it fosters. But students who do well in AP and don’t have access to IB are not harmed by a lack of it.

If you are from the program I think you are ( are you in GR?) and your GPA is unweighted 3.96 then I’d say that a) you are probably in the top ten percent of your class and b) you’re a good match for UM and possibly even a candidate for merit award.

Just make sure UM knows its a top choice for you.
