How does my GPA rank?

I know this sounds stupid, but I don’t know my GPA, or even how to rank it. I guess it’s an Average, but just in case it isn’t, I’ll list my classes and scores in them.
Math A: 86.25 (He loves to give out 85’s. Don’t know why) Regent: 81
Math B: 87
Global History: 89 Regent: 87
American History: 96.25
Biology: 88 Regent: 82
Earth Science: 96.25 Regent: 90
Chemistry: 91
English: 90
Hebrew: 90
That’s pretty much it. I think that’s pretty good. If that’s not, then who gets into these schools, anyway?

It completely depends on how your school does gpa and what grades correlate with what scores.

what is an A+,A,B+,B in your school in terms of percentages? like 95-100% being an A+ and such.

Well, in Science, I’m easily the best. In History everyone gets high marks in American, but I have the highest in Global. In Math, I think it’s a draw or one is a little higher than me in Math between two other kids in my class, I think I’m the highest in my class in English, but I can’t say for sure, and since we have alot of things added on to Hebrew, it’s hard to tell. There are only 16 kids in my class… Like I said in another forum, my school is too unorganized to keep track of my GPA. That’s why I’m asking.

well there are a number of ways by which gpa can be calculated so it depends on what method your school uses.

What is an A+,A,B+,B in your school in terms of percentages (0-100%)?

Oh, and most of the kids in my class hae 50-60-70’s averages. 70’s the most prodominate one. 2 kids have 80’s, and me and another kid has 90’s average.

a wii bump…

Bumpie #2…

bump #3…

Wow, the 4th bump…I thought someone would give me an idea now. (I didn’t ask for something 100% correct, but a ballpark figure)

At my school, you would have a 3.65/4.0! That’s pretty good, good luck.

“At my school, you would have a 3.65/4.0! That’s pretty good, good luck.”
How is that pretty good? I’m just pondering about the fact that most schools I’ve seen have a Average GPA of 3.8. Even Brooklyn has a 3.5. Are you to tell me that only students with a 90’s get into Brooklyn? I never thought there were so many schools with extraordinary students. I used to think getting a 90 was an achievment. (And almost everyone I know has averages in the 70’s) Now 90’s seem Average.
I mean, who even makes it to College anymore?

I didn’t wan to make it sound like I’m a whiny complainaing jack a $s.
I’m not. I’m just kinda frusturated.

bumpie…

yea im in the same boat as you…the community college in miami has a higher average gpa than i do…3.2

You really need to talk to a counselor or administrator at your school. Your GPA is most important in the context of your school. It sounds like you rank high for your school. Does your school msend kids to the colleges you’re interested in? They should know what it takes to get in if they do. Also, with such a small class and a school that doesn’t sound like a top one, your SAT score will be very important. If you have a high score it will show schools how difficult your school’s grading system is, a lower score would say A’s are easy to get. Also, does your school offer honors and APs. Colleges will want to know if you took the hardest classes. If you tell us nwhat schools you’re looking at, we can help more.

are you talking to me, or the beginner of the thread?

It applies to both. If you have a 3.2 at a tough school it’s stronger than a 3.2 at a school that’s not very competitive. A higher than average SAT score can often help a low GPA at a community college.

Well, there are somany schools I’m really interested in. I guess my main school of interest is Columbia since my mom works there, which gives me a sizeable discount, plus financial aid, it would be the cheapest private school I could attend. More than that, though is that I have some kind of “bond” of sorts with the school. I’ve seen this school since I was a child. I know every building, hallway, organizaion of how the school works. Also, it’s far enough away to be worth it to dorm, yet to come home often. (It would take me around 1 1/2 - 2 hours to get home. Both ways, with the rigorous work the school puts out, it’ll just be too much) Plus, I’ve beenn considering law as a major, since it’s the only major I’ve seen that has interested me a little.

Oh, and I’m in the 3rd graduating class of my school. In the 1st, most of the kids (only about 8-9 in the class) went onto CUNY schools, and only like 1 or 2 went to Community, and one is in Polytech College.
The 2nd graduating classs is a toughie. (Also around 9 kids) I know my friend in my school is going to Communty, another is going into a Private (not sure which. I think Pace, but not 100% on that) another 2 is going to Brooklyn, another in Community, and the rest I’m not sure. I think one made it into YU.
(The classes were also alot bigger in the previous grade. Each had around 14-16 kids. Most ditched, some switched schools)

What’s your ethnicity? SAT? Is your school in a poor area? What does your mom do at Columbia?

I’m 1/2 Hispanic and 1/2 White. (And Jewish) Taking the SAT this June. If you consider Canarsie a poor area. (which it is) She works orgainzing books in the library, listing them, that stuff. (The occupation itself is too long to name.)
