I have a 92 average. I have taken 4 honors classes and will be taking 4 ap classes next year. How are these classes weighted? also does freshman year count?

Freshman year doesn’t count, but nobody knows exactly how Princeton calculates the average. They probably give a little more weight to AP or IB courses but nobody really knows. Sorry we can’t be of more help.

i dont know how they do it either, but rumor has it, they dont look at GPA but rather, at the individual grades for each class … but i dont know how valid that is …

its interesting that they dont’ count freshman year …

i actually did the best that year!

so no weight given to honors classes?

I don’t know if they’re mathematically given weight, but honors, APs, etc. certainly have weight in AdComs’ eyes, because taking them is a sign that you are challenging yourself and are taking full advantage of the opportunities given to you. If honors classes are offered at your school and you have chosen not to take them when you are clearly capable of doing so, AdComs will most likely look down on this as a sign that you are not willing to challenge yourself.
In sort of an answer to your question, even if no mathematical weight is put on honors, APs, etc., when AdComs look at the grades for those types of classes, they will know that you will have worked harder for those grades than for grades in non-honors classes (even though for individual cases this may not be true), and so will value them more.

From what i have gathered and learned (through calling),

They take all A’s A-'s and A+'s and simply give it a 4. Same with all Bs and all Cs etc.
Freshmen year IS TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT. (however getting a C in F’men year will be looked upon as a transitional blunder… haha)

I also know that they look at the ACTUAL TRANSCRIPT and look at the courses you have been taking etc.

Hope this helps…

our school only gives number grades so wud they consider anything above a 90 in that class to be a 4?

That should be right. in most school a 90 is ususally a A-. I also know that there are some ridic. schools that give A’s for any grade over 90…

SO YES 90 and above is all a 4.

(but sometimes i hesitiate and ask myself… would p’ton really bother recalculating 20,000 GPAs…)

wow does this make my 92 avergae unweighted better? if this was weighted it wud be like a 96 right?

I’m really really not trying to be rude or discourage you from posting on this forum or anything but honestly…we really don’t know. I don’t think anybody can say concretely how Princeton weighs or calculates averages. You’ve taken challenging courses and seem to have made mostly As given your average, and so I think Princeton will take that into account and you’ll be fine. Otherwise, we cannot numerically determine anything. Sorry.

thanks for the info. hearing that im fine helps a little. im juts gonna try and study and hope to get my average up to a 93 or at least a 92.5 this term. and possibly get a 98 average for senior year which wud show a lot of improvement right and a lot of inteligence as i will be taking 4 a,p, a computer class, a class at a local college, and intel projects? and thats never a bad thing. all i can do is pray for the best.
