How does registering for classes work?

When looking at the classes for Fall 2012, if a class is closed is really closed as in there in no way you can get in? Would they open back up for freshman at orientation? Also what happens if a class doesn’t have a instructor listed?

Well, freshmen (and transfers, I guess) do basically get whatever is still open after upperclassmen have registered, a process which has just begun here. In general, most classes do open and close all the time, you just need to be vigilant and keep an eye on the course schedule throughout your registration period. For lower div classes it shouldn’t be as much of a problem though, and I’ve always heard that they try to reserve some seats in larger classes for freshmen who haven’t registered yet - especially the UGS’s. If a course doesn’t have an instructor listed, it means an instructor just hasn’t been assigned to that course yet.
