How does the prestige of the undergrad school matters in the admission to top 10 PhD programs?

I’m from Italy, after 2 years spent at a university in my country I decided to move to the US as a transfer student, so as to better prepare my groundwork for the PhD in a well renowned school. I got accepted into NYU, CAS. I have chosen to attend the joint major program in economic theory and mathematics (it is jointly offered by the NYU Econ Department and the Courant Institute, which is one of the top math dep in the country). Do you think the NYU joint major program (along with my deep interest for economic theory, pretty high GPA, outstanding GRE score etc…) can make me an excellent candidate to get into an elite PhD program in the US?

The most important factors in having a competitive Ph.D. application are GRE, GPA and letters of recommendation. You also need to get significant research experience. The prestige (such as it is) or your undergraduate institution is not as important.

If you do well you can get into a great PhD program from NYU.
