Hi guys I will be visiting uChicago on Monday (driving 6 hours). I was just wondering how does the campus tour actually work. Do i just show up in the morning at the admissions office and say ‘can you guys give me a tour’ or am i supposed to go wandering about on my own? I’m from Canada so hope you guys can give me a hand in this one.

I would advise getting there a bit early. Chicago arranges for a number of current students to mingle with the parents and students waiting for the tour.
We found it very helpful to get to speak one-on-one with multiple students to get their perspective, find out why they chose Chicago. A

Since the blog says that do not do tours on major holidays, I would check with the school to see if there are tours on Monday. I wouldn’t think that President’s day qualifys as a major holiday, but banks and government offices are closed, so I would check first. If there are no tours, I would suspect that you could get a willing student to show you around. Check with the admissions office or another university office (i.e. president’s office). The students and staff at the University are extremely friendly and very helpful.

We have class on Presidents’ Day, so there will probably be tours.

If you get a chance, try to strike up conversation with some non-tour-guide students and see if you can find one willing to give you a non-marketing tour, though. It’s definitely worth it to get more of an inside view on how the place works.
