I began my freshman year at Florida Atlantic University on scholarship and ended up failing a class, a D+ in another, and two B+ grades for the other two classes I took. My GPA was around a 1.8. I transferred back home to York College of PA to get my act together, away from the party environment of my roommates and got my act together during the Spring semester. Finished with 3 As and a B+. My gpa at York College is a 3.83 as I never transferred my credits from FAU. I want to transfer away to another university however for the next semester, I’m looking at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. Can I just submit my GPA from York and transfer the classes I took there? Essentially pretending the semester at FAU never happened and just put it in the past. Or would I get in trouble from a college if I don’t report I went to FAU and the grades I received there. I’d like to be able to transfer to Temple U and not have to stay at York College for another year to rescue my gpa from my screw up at FAU.
Thanks for the help!!
You must submit everything.
No
More likely they would just deny your admissions for lying/failing to send in all application materials or perhaps just ask for your FAU transcript after they run the national clearinghouse check.
Be thankful you don’t have that much to rescue. I had a 1.67 GPA with 83 credits from my first go around in college. It has taken me 3.5 years of straight A’s (114 credits) to get my cumulative over a 3.0.
Like posters above have mentioned, you can’t hide FAU under the rug. If you want to transfer, you must submit all college level coursework you have taken, especially if you received some credit for it. If you fail to do this, Temple can deny you acceptance. Or, if you get accepted by Temple, they can rescind your admission.
Most transfer applications have an honor code before you submit it, and by signing the honor code, you affirm that everything you put on the application is correct and that you aren’t hiding anything from them.
That being said, I think your upward trend at York College compared to FAU will help you.
Submit everything as you must but don’t worry about it too much. You have a good story to tell about how you fixed your academics by taking action. Once you get into Temple or wherever, your GPA there will not include the transfer courses anyway so you will have a new clean slate to start with.
