How does the unit cap work at UCLA with a major change?

I was admitted to UCLA under Philosophy (TAP BusEcon reject with a 3.85), and now I want to switch into Math/Econ. I also would like to complete the Accounting minor as well.

Seeing at I still have quite a few prereqs to complete (Just finished calc2), I am going to most likely take 3 years in order to finish everything I want to do. I inquired about this to a counselor and she said that sometimes major changes exceed the unit cap at UCLA (216 units).

I don’t really get what she means by 216: is it 216 AT UCLA, or 216 including CC courses. I completed around 62 semester units at CC (around 93 quarter), so I was wondering if I could indeed finish my major change and minor while staying beneath the cap.

What I have remaining for the major is 74 units of Math/Econ and 30 units of Accounting minor = 104 units. 104 + previous 93 = 197 < 216. RIGHT? or am I not understanding how they do this?

216 including the CC courses. Your DPR will show how many units you have taken.

If you anticipate going over the 216 you will have to petition for more units. If you do go over, without UCLA’s approval, you can be subject to essentially being “kicked out”.

You’ll be fine… even with the missing pre-reqs Math/Econ is a low unit major. You are 100% under the cap with the 104 units for your major and minor + 93 quarter you are coming in with.
