How does this process work? PLEASE HELP!

How does the process of being an athlete recruit work?

What I mean is…for one to become an athlete recruit, does one have to get in touch with the coach and ask to be recruited?

Also, would it be too late for me to do this, considering that the college deadline’s is on the 22nd.

(I’m applying ED btw)

Way too late . . . Most D1 recruited athletes these days are contacted as sophomores or even earlier. They go to camps hosted by the school and other showcase events, combines etc. It is a years long process. D2 is similare but less intense. D3 has specific rules about contact and workouts, so more is based on reputation, video, state records, etc. Depending on the school, the coach may have pull for certain sports or a percentage of slots per sport, and some D3 coaches have very little pull. Many D3 schools have 1 or 2 sports that they like to excel in and will give a bump (think swimming, rowing, lacrosse, etc). At any rate, it is all immaterial to you at this point. You can walk on, but won’t get an admissions bump.

Partially true, but it is never too late. If you were hoping to get the coaches help in admissions, then it may be too late. Coaches talk to lots of kids, but will only commit to a few. Some rosters will be filled now, but not all. If you are good enough, they will cut an upperclass athlete who is goofing off to make room for a promising recruit. Contact the coach ASAP.

I know a kid who played baseball for a major D1, was recruited in June of his senior year.

Depends on your sport and which Division.

If the deadline is the 22nd…as in tom…for ED …you are too far behind for coach support for your sport for early apps.
Are you nationally ranked and being looked at by other schools ?
Have you contacted coaches or been contacted by them ?

You need an NCAA clearinghouse profile…

Better cast a wide net for RD as well…
Use the search function here to search for your sport and other app info
