I applied to top schools and I strongly believe that I got rejected from my ED school because of my freshman grades. So, I just received my mid-year report grades and I would like to know if they will make any difference at all (I have ~2300 SAT so I don’t think that is a problem). Also my school does not calculate GPA or rank so that information is my guess:

Freshman
1 A* (Maths)
1 A (Business)
4 Bs (2 Sciences, English Language and Literature)
3 Cs (Media, Physical and 3rd Science)
1 D (French)

GPA (my approximation): 2.7UW, 2.8W

Sophomore
5 A*s (Maths, 3 Sciences and Media)
4 As (English Language, Literature, Advanced Mathematics (very tough) and Business)
2 Bs (Physical and French)

GPA and rank (my approximation): 3.81UW, 4.27W, ~12/200

Junior - IB course
Mathematics HL - 5
Chemistry HL - 7
Business HL - 7
German Ab Initio - 5
Philosophy SL - 6
English A1 SL - 6
Total: 36/42
Note: German Ab Initio can be considered a 7 because we learnt the course from scratch so at that point I was at a 5 (I would get a 5 if I took the exam then because I hadn’t learnt the full course)
GPA and rank (my approximation): 3.66UW and 4.0W (with German as 5), 4.0UW and 4.5W (with German as 7)

Senior
Mathematics HL - 6
Chemistry HL - 7
Business HL - 7
German Ab Initio - 7
Philosophy SL - 6
English A1 SL - 6
TOK - 3
Total: 39/42 or 42/45
GPA and rank (my approximation): 4.0UW, 4.5W and ~10/200

Senior - Mid Year Report
Mathematics HL - 7
Chemistry HL - 7
Business HL - 7
German Ab Initio - 7
Philosophy SL - 7
English A1 SL - 7
TOK - 3
Total: 42/42 or 45/45
GPA and rank (my approximation): 4.0UW, 5.0W and 1/200 (shared with 1-2 other people)

So, will my mid-year report help much? How does it look overall?

mid year report really does not make a big difference at any college
makes no difference at this point as there is nothing you can do, the applications are in and that’s about it.
just chill out and wit to hear. no need to stress and post on every forum about your chances when you have already applied
your trend is whatever it is and you should know that
whatever people here say, it can’t make any difference, your apps were in about a month ago, so just forget about it and relax
I think you have a good chance, but at the top schools the most anyone has, without a hook, is a chance - even with perfect board scores and GPA. .
just have a safety or two and don’t worry about this until April.
just my opinion.

Your trend looks good but from there on, i don’t know.

Thanks a lot. Will my 1550/1600 SAT score help bring things more in my favor and help them understand that I just was not college conscious back in freshman year?

SAT is separate from grades. It does not explain anything. You have to explain your freshman year grades on your own. I do not believe not being conscious of college admission process is a good enough excuse. When i was freshman i did not know about the process but i still kept my grades up. I didn’t know that colleges look for more than just grades until junior year, but i participated in ecs i enjoy doing. That’s what colleges look for – self motivation, not motivation just for the sake of getting in colleges.

looks like a very good trend

You should have tried ED,

^ yes it could have helped a lot

Antiflamer, I do agree that it is a bad excuse. What I meant was that I did not know that grades I achieved in a mock exam which was only supposed to “give you an indication of where you are right now” was going to be submitted on my transcript. I presumed that only the final grades would be sent hence why I worked hard to learn the course 2-3 months before the exam.
