How does Transfer work?

Let’s say you get admission in college 1 and then for some reason you need to Transfer to college 2. How does that work? Do the same admission criterion apply? or it will be much harder later on once the seats are filled? Is it better to wait for the academic year to finish and then seek a transfer in order to synchronize the process of admission? Here I’m assuming for 2nd,3rd and 4th year admissions happens around the same time frame.

See the Transfer 101 sticky thread at the top of this forum for general information about transfer admissions.

Generally the same criteria apply, plus your college record and reason for transferring. As you get further away from HS, your HS record and testing generally become less important.

Some schools take a lot of transfers, others very few due to high retention. Go to the CB Big Future website and search for a school to find their transfer rate.

Most transfers matriculate in the fall, not all schools accept spring transfers.

Students usually transfer with soph or jr standing, many schools don’t take sr transfers.
