I’m having a hard time gauging the competitiveness of transfer admission v. freshman admission. I’ve heard its easier, but at the same time I’m getting the sense that what is most important to admission officers in your reasoning for transferring. Does anyone who has had experience transferring have any words of advice? Is it unreasonable to think that I will be accepted to one of the following schools given my stats?
College GPA: 3.8
HS GPA: Around 4.1 wighted
SAT: 1990
A fair amount of ECs
Brandeis University
Boston University
Emory University
Oberlin College
Wesleyan University
Tufts University
Are you transferring as a sophomore or junior? For some schools, it’s easier to transfer as a junior because your high school statistics are no longer important. Conversely, if you transfer as a sophomore your high school stats will carry more weight.
You seem to want to transfer to an LAC and LACs typically have low transfer rates due to competitive admission and the fact that they get a lower number of applicants.
All of the schools you listed do want an essay/personal statement (mostly about why you want to transfer) so be prepared for that.
I think Wesleyan and BU will probably take you. Maybe Brandeis.
