Does UIUC grade in bell curve or normal ? Or does it depend on the teacher?? Thank You~!
Depends on the teacher. Even in the same department you can get widely varied grading policies. Some departments might try to stay more consistent than others though, so if you have a specific one in mind send off a direct email to one of the advisers and ask.
It really depends on the teacher. In intro STEM classes, you’re graded on a curve more often than not. Non-STEM classes aren’t for the most part. At least in my science and math classes, the professors seem to test on what you don’t know rather than what you do which probably explains the curve.
As noted, it depends, but also note that many courses, particularly in STEM, use multiple factors to determine grades. You will have the major tests, usually three in the semester, which will account for the majority of your grade, but you will also have frequent quizzes and homework which also account for a portion of your grade and thus you can more or less help yourself in getting a higher grade by doing all the homework and getting it correct; of course you can also lower your grade by blowing off homework.
