I was really excited about Vanderbilt. I sat through the information session and took the tour and I was greatly impressed by the facilities Vanderbilt has to offer. However, they couldn’t really tell me what the benefits are to go to Vanderbilt, besides being pampered. After Vanderbilt I went to several other colleges, UVA, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, and I was impressed by their stats and prestige. With that expensive price tag are u really paying for the facilities or the education?

Also, how southern is Vanderbilt/Nashville, really?

Not really, this board has historically been the least active on the Top Colleges subsection.

I didn’t answer your first question because I really dont want to. Vanderbilt is consistenty jeered as overrated and it gets old having to defend this school.

well i guess i mean anything. Georgetown U tuition is about $30,000. Its a great school in a great city. So, how can you justify the $34,000 tuition for vanderbilt?

There are different aspects to every school that all contribute to the tuition costs and the appeal to potential applicants. A school’s debt, its faculty, its facilities, the size of the student body, and the location are large factors in determining the cost of the education. The appeal to any school varies for each student. Some people prefer an urban setting, others a suburban one. Some enjoy a small student body so that they can experience the feeling of being a part of a well-knit community. Others enjoy being in a huge institution where they can meet several new people on a daily basis. What will cause a school to appeal to you is dependent on your personality and what you are looking for. Those who come to Vandy are often attracted to it for its unique balance of outstanding academics and the thriving greek life/party scene. One phrase that has often been used to describe Vanderbilt’s students is: “those who work very hard and play even harder…”
