Just wondering how easy it would be or hard to get into the university of Washington without their average GPA?
http://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg02_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=764 says that only 11% had high school GPA under 3.50.
Also, many majors at Washington are impacted; see http://www.washington.edu/uaa/advising/academic-planning/majors-and-minors/list-of-undergraduate-majors/ . With below average high school GPA, if your intended major is one of the ones with more competitive admission, it is unlikely that you will get direct admission as a frosh, and it may be an uphill climb to get the needed college GPA to be competitive to get into the major later. Of course, if your high school GPA is low due to conditions that no longer apply (e.g. poor 9th-10th grade, but you turned it around and have straight A grades in 11th-12th grade), then that may be a positive sign (though there is still uncertainty about getting into competitive majors).
Not easy, and getting harder.
Some majors are “competitive,” and some more than others. As the officious ucbalumnus notes, a low GPA would not bode well for admission to one of the more competitive majors, assuming you were admitted to the school.
would you recommend going to a community college first then transferring?
It depends on what major you are interested in pursuing. Washington has a long tradition of taking top instate CC transfers, so that may be a viable option.
For reference, the unweighted average GPA of enrolled freshmen in fall 2015 was 3.78.
For transfers, the UW website says 86% of accepted transfers were from
Washington two-year colleges; average college GPA was 3.47.
My goal in the end is to become a pediatrician. I heard that medical schools do not mind what you majored in but just your college GPA and MCAT scores.
Or do you think it’d be fine to not have a major yet?
