Hi all, quick question. So I have a 2380 and a great GPA, 4.4 on a 4.0 scale (due to ap classes). And 790, 800 SAT II’s. And 8 AP’s by the time I apply. How far will these take me? I don’t have any outstanding international awards. I have a few EC leadership positions but no super-impressive projects that I’ve done. I’ve also been to a few pre-college summer camps and held an internship at a surgical practice over the summer. I’m a junior, and am trying to figure out what colleges I can reasonably apply to.

Field-- bio. Colleges I’ve seen that I really like: Stanford, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, Wash U StL. Haven’t visited any Ivies but I’ll probably be applying to some of them. And then a safety college or two of course.

Stanford gets a lot of 2300+ and 4.0+. I would really get deep into one EC this coming summer. Make yourself interesting and show you have something else other than academics.

Ok…I see you are in Bio. Try to get into a Bio internship that may pan out into a science fair award …? More than that, think deep what you like and follow that over the next few months and summer.

The Ivies are a crapshoot for everyone, regardless of stats. I think you could definitely qualify merit aid though at places like Alabama, Furman, and other lesser known schools.

You should add USC [ USNWR # 24] to your list as a match, or possible financial safety. USC is very eager to attract hi stat applicants[ much as Wash U was 15 years ago] ,and it is “relatively” less difficult to get in there with “weaker” EC’s than at S. If your PSAT score this year is at or above your states current cutoff level, you will receive an automatic 1/2 tuition scholarship for all 4 years at USC, if accepted [ which you would be] USC awarded 450 1/2 tuition scholarships this year. They also award 150 Full tuition scholarships to tip-top freshman.

Your academic stats will keep you out of the immediate-reject-because-grades-and-test-scores-are-too-low pile at the super-selectives. But that still means that the chance of admission is low, since the super-selectives have numerous applicants with similar academic stats.

Be sure you have some actual safeties that are definite acceptances with definite affordability.

Thanks for all the thoughtful responses and suggestions, everyone. You’ve given me lots of stuff to consider. Anyone who has any more suggestions, please keep 'em coming.
