How flexible is UC prompt #1?

Yeah, yeah, there are a lot of threads about this prompt, but I think that’s 'cause it’s tripping everyone up.

A friend and I were talking about it and it got me thinking… how flexible is the word “world”?? I mean this is supposed to be a biographical-ish essay, right? My friend was talking about writing about dancing since it’s something she did all her life. Someone else advised me to find a common theme throughout my life (dancing in my friend’s case) and structure the essay around it- how it relates to me and what not.

I’m thinking about making my topic writing- it’s something I’ve done all my life and has been with me through all my trials and tribulations… so would that topic be okay for this prompt? like, trace it throughout my life and how I plan to pursue it and all that.

how are you all approaching this? Are you strictly talking about your family, community, or school?

I talked about the middle school summer program I attended and now work at. Though I briefly touched on school and community, I never mentioned my family.

I think the word world opens it up to almost anything in your life that is important to you. I think you could have a brief intro of your family and then move it right into what you really want to talk about.

Can both essays be of a similar topic? i’m thinking that is not wise.

also…do you need to write anythying in the #3 part? It seems from the app. that a third personal statement is a must.

^^ well… its better to have it on different topics. if ur writing it on the same thing, the admissions officers wont get to know u even more and its redundant knowing u through the same thing.
