…more specifically, Math 20a?

uh, at least for fall qtr i’d assume there’d be a full class for sure, since it’d be mostly freshman taking it. most lower div math/science classes are gonna be very packed, unless if the professor sucks and no one wants to take the class.

aw man, that sucks. would that mean that I wouldn’t be able to register for math at the start of the school year for first qtr?

no, when i talked to people at admit day, they said that you mostly can get any class you want, just not necessarily at the time you want

also, there are tons of math20a-f classes because almost everyone takes that or the 10 series

i doubt you won’t be able to get the class

My advice for you is to not be too hasty. Don’t try to take every class you can possibly get into just to be “on track”. You’ll soon learn that pacing yourself is more efficient than keeping up with everyone else. It’s better to take them a quarter after everyone else because 1. They won’t be as full 2. You’ll probably get a better curve because all the “smart” people took it the quarter before you 3. You can ask friends from the previous quarter to help you since they just took it. The only downside to this is that there are certain professors that teach a course during a specific quarter.

how does the grade curve works?? i heard almost all UCs are using curve or whatever for grade now? i didnt quite get it. can someone explain?

Curves depend on the professor, and not all classes are curved (most humanities like literature aren’t for example). The curve is built around the average score on an exam or the total class grade, and a new grading scale is built around it. So if the class average is a 60%, a grade in the 80s could be an A.

As for classes filling up, I didn’t really have a problem for fall of freshman year except for muir writing. But I don’t know many people who did not get into a lower division math or science class that they needed/wanted to take. You may not get the best time, but there is probably one available. Plus, you can always wait-list…
