I am interested in digital arts as a career. Unfortunately, I am not very good in the drawing field. However, I am good with computers, which I know is essential in the digital arts field. How good do you have to be at drawing to major in digital arts? And if drawing well is a requirement, what do you recommend I do to improve?
It depends on the college. There are a few that do not have a portfolio requirement and they will teach you all the drawing you need once you are in. Drexel and RIT are two that I know of. But you can also improve your drawing skills by taking weekend classes at a college near you and/or a summer workshop.
Actually RIT does require a portfolio for many of its digital arts programs, but there are some that are BS programs that do not (such as the BS in Media Arts and Technology). https://www.rit.edu/emcs/admissions/apply/freshman/requirements
Learn to draw. It’s possible. It’s part talent but also a skill.
