How good does a website design business look for college apps?

I make websites for people, but usually just for local businesses/individuals. I DON’T program the websites though, as I do not know programming. Instead I just use an online website builder, so I have no programming experience.

I am planning to major in Business or Law. If I have made money off this business with quite a few clients including small businesses, firms in my area, how good will this web business look on college apps even though I’m not doing anything harder than navigating a pre made website template?

Admissions Directors understand the difference between students using off-the-shelf templates and students who have written the code themselves. Often times students that submit examples of their websites with their applications, supply the code for inspection – that’s something you can’t do with a template, so I would NOT submit examples with your application. If you spend more than a couple of hours a week creating websites for people, I would definitely write down your website business on the activity list. How much will it help? No one knows the answer to that question.

Definitely include it on your app, but, like Gibby said, do not give them examples or URLs. Instead, tell them how many websites you’ve designed and how many clients you have.
I run my own website and I have developed 2 mobile apps. With the website, I’ll submit the name (but not the URL as they could just google that and find it) and the monthly hits I get while with the apps I’ll say I’ve developed 2 apps and give them the total amount of downloads.

Besides information like that, they really don’t need or have time to look at anything else.

This is the kind of thing that makes an excellent essay topic. Presumably you are doing business development, client communications, expecatation management, problem solving etc. There are a lot of skills that go into this beyond the technical that are exactly what you need to be successful in business.
