So I’ve exhibited some graphic design posters in other countries with professionals through international selections, and one of the locations is at a pretty significant place, but I’m worried if it even means anything since they aren’t one of those big art competitions for high schoolers in the US like YoungArts or Scholastic.
If it is an international show, for which a limited number are selected, it is pretty impressive. If it is a show for “grown ups”, it is even more impressive. Unless you are applying to an art school, though, you may have to provide info, such as what percent of submissions are accepted to the show, how many countries participate, and whether it is a professional exhibition, rather than one for high school students, etc.
Congrats, BTW.
If I provided that kind of info and the exhibitions were pretty selective, would that be even more impressive in the eyes of the more prestigious schools? And how good would an activity like that be compared to other ECs? And also I think a lot of things on the professional level would be relatively unknown to admissions officers by name, so I would have to give more details anyway.
I think you should give us some kind of disguised context. It sounds interesting, but I feel we need more info.
It’s a peace poster biennale at the nanjing massacre memorial hall, and had a selection rate of around 3-4% in a pool of 5200 people, and designers from more than 30 countries participated.
^ that’s enough to describe it in your app, made to tit the space.
We don’t know your targets. Or your match otherwise. It’s legit to include. But how it adds depends on your overall app. It won’t make up for what’s otherwise lacking.
What if assuming that I’m aiming for the Ivies and my UW GPA is >3.9? I haven’t taken the sat yet, but have gotten an 800 on sat math.
Include the info. It’s interesting. Maybe even provide additional info and a supplement to your app, if it’s a well known and important thing. Once you take your SAT, let us know.
In terms of art/humanities ECs how does this compare to other activities, if someone’s done it more than once?
You’re looking for a magic tip and there really is no one thing that gets you into an Ivy, if everything else isn’t spot on. (Ok, except being a recruited athlete.)
And, this is a nice thing you experienced, but how does it relate to your possible major?
Just asking if this is a huge factor makes me wonder how you’ve assessed your chances, even what you do know about what it takes. It’s more than gpa and some exhibit or two.
It’s legit, you put it on your app and then focus on the rest of what matters. Know what that means. If you are not otherwise a match, move on to more feasible targets.
