How good would AP Calculus AB 10th grade look on your transcript?

I mean, if you compare:

A) Precalculus summer course, AP Calculus AB 10th with probably a B+ or A- and a 4 on exam, AP Calculus BC 11th, Multivariable 12th (in college since school doesn’t offer it)
B) Honors Precal 10th, AP Calculus AB 11th with probably A- or A with 5 on exam, AP Calculus BC 12th

Which one would be better?

I would go with track B (full disclosure: I did go with track B). With a B in Calc AB and a 4 on the exam, you won’t look like a math prodigy; you’ll look like a kid who’s good at math but wasn’t quite ready for calculus. And, college admissions aside, won’t you enjoy the class more if you feel better able to handle it?

Definitely B. Grades/AP exam > looking good.

B is still very strong math sequence. If you want more challenge do math competitions or math summer programs.

One point, although small, is if you think you may be a candidate for any of your high school math awards senior year, you probably would not qualify if you took math in college. My nephew took math at college junior and senior year, and then did not qualify for the math award senior year because he took no math at the HS that year. Small price if you really want to do it, but As and 5s are nice to have on that transcript with those AP classes.

I don’t know…I’m currently in the midst of choice A myself, its actually a lot easier than you’d think. Calculus if, after all, just two concepts that are just explored further and further. (knock on wood) I’ve still got a 98% in the class!! If you actually legitimately enjoy math and really can’t wait to learn more, go with A, but if you’re just worried about how it will work, choice B. As a few people said above, you won’t look like a math prodigy with a B or B+, just smart but wasn’t ready. Don’t rush your education :)

I’d be taking the precalc course at Lawrenceville, is it any good?
