How hard are SPA 101 & ANT 221 ?

I need 2 very easy-A Gen Eds for the next semester. How hard are:

SPA 101 - Elementary Spanish I (I have never studied Spanish)
&
ANT 221 - Introduction to Folklore ?

Are they time consuming ? Can I get easy A’s in the 2 courses spending minimum time for them? Thanks.

Shouldn’t you post this in a specific college forum?

No one here will really know unless they go to your particular school.

They don’t sound particularly difficult to me, but it’ll depend on you. I know at my school language courses can be time-consuming, especially if you’ve never studied the language before, but Spanish isn’t a huge leap away from English.

Yeah, no one will know unless we go to your school. Each class is different, lol. Like my ANT221 like advanced biological anthropology studies or something.

I’ve found that even the easiest classes (topic-wise) can be a hard A just because of the professor. Likewise, a hard class (topic wise) can be made very easy because of the professor.

I would advise going to ratemyprof for the teachers before choosing.

a beginning language class in college, especially if you’ve never taken the language, can be tough. You’ll cover the equivalent of 2 years of high school Spanish in 4 months. Expect 2hours-2 1/2 hours prep for each class meeting, and you may still be pulling a B. The first month will be time consuming but very easy. However the danger is being easily satisfied then: if you slack off and don’t know everything by heart, you’ll be in trouble, since everything is cumulative, and it goes so fast that you’ll soon fall behind.

Find your school’s sub-forum and ask there.

Comments on ratemyrpofessors say SPA 101 is extremely easy. Should I believe them ?

From my experiences, ratemyprof does not lie. I always use it when choosing classes and so far it is accurate in how easy/hard or bad/good a professor is.

Of course, you’ll have to judge for yourself. If a teacher only has one good comment, I’d probably take it with a grain of salt and google them some more.

Ratemyprofessor can be hit or miss. In my experience, it’s usually fairly accurate. I’d usually trust it more if a bunch of people are saying it’s really easy. If people are saying it’s really hard, you’ve gotta figure that it’s because of their own lack of effort in many cases.

You’re better off asking people around campus that have taken the same class, but it can be a good reference. I always check there when I’m selecting my classes.

When a lot of people say that a class is very easy, it usually is.

When everyone says it’s hard, it’s important to read the comments and try to figure out if what they consider hard would be hard for you.

Thanks everyone. I think SPA 101 is going to be very easy. Unfortunately, I did not get any comments about ‘ANT 221-Introduction to Folklore’ on ratemyprofessors. I know It depends on my college but, i at least need to know from your experience how hard/easy YOU THINK this course is because I have absolutely no idea. I will have to drop this one and take easier one if It may be hard.

The second one sounds easy. The first is iffy: it really depends on how good you are at languages, though I’d be hard pressed to find a language with the combination of material availability and general easiness that Spanish offers. If you just need a gen-ed, though, foreign languages are often required so you’ll have to take one sometime.

If I had to guess, I would think an introduction to folklore class would be relatively easy. It also sounds like a really cool class. There’s likely to be a decent amount of reading involved, and possible some writing. Beyond that, I really couldn’t tell ya. And I might be completely wrong about it.

never take language classes for easy grades. That’s all im going to tell you.

^This. Language classes can hugely vary in difficulty depending on the teacher.

Check out the reviews for those classes at rate my professor.
