Being an RA seems like something I would really enjoy. How competitive is the application process, and how much of a time commitment does being an RA entail?

Any replies would be appreciated.

I’m an RA now for West. It’s moderately competitive. Somewhere around 30% of applicants who apply get the job. Recruitment is nearing an end as we just wrapped up first round interviews (part of your RA job is helping the RCs interview new candidates for next year).

The RA position definitely takes a big chunk of your time. You’re required to:

Attend an intense 1 week training.
Be on-call at least 11 times each semester and make rounds.
Throw at least 10 events per semester for your residents
Attend weekly meeting with your campus groups and 1 on 1s with your RC.

There’s more but I’m too lazy to write.
