I was assigned to ERC as a biomedical engineering major, and i heard ERC has the toughest GEs. I dont no if i am going to have that much time in my schedule for all teh GE classes, plus, i am really bad at foreign language, and i am required to take two semesters of it for ERC.
Does anyone know how hard it is to change colleges, and if any of them dont require you to take any foreign language?

Changing college is almost slim to zero. I asked this question during admit day, and they said that you have to go through a ton of paperwork and other things and such. I should have paid more attention, but I was happy with my college lol and some other people were like “I don’t like Muir, can I switch to warren?” the hosts were like “you can’t switch to the different colleges, but it’s been done that people have dormed in other colleges due to the abundance of students at a specific college, but it takes a long time and it’s really rare.”

somewhat like that.

So you can try, but ERC is really nice! They have nice people there!

Considering you’re an engineering major, it will be easier for you to change your major than any other major, because you have a legitimate gripe. I would call UCSD and ask them.

BioE is impacted, and the GE’s for engineer should prolly go to Warren College, which i found out is the best place for engineers… and Revelle for science but Revelle SUCKS!!! It looks like cheap hotels u pay to sleep in haha.

I think most of them require foreign language unless u have already passed the test for one or more.

haha sorry for not answer ur questions!

ERC has great dorms, a really good dining hall and a terrific mix of people who are interested in the world, not just their own little corner of it. Although I’m not in ERC, I liked it a lot and would have been fine with it. Yes, there is a language requirement. I thionk only Warren and Muir don’t have one. But taking some intro language courses when you already had to have some language exsposure in high school won’t be that bad. Just take the intro level of the language you already studied. Or take some language that you might want to travel to the country of on a study abroad quarter. I’m also in an engineering major and hope to study abroad a little in Japan so even though I don’t have a language requirement, I figure some intro Japanese would be good.

@mandy12-hey im in the same boat as you…im a bioE, in ERC with the GEs, and i will be doing varsity sports (xc and track) hahaha just think to yourself that ya only live once and might as well pack as much into your day as you can
we will probably have a lot of the same classes so i look forward to meeting you!

I think Revelle is known to have the hardest/worst GE’s, actually.

I’ve heard of a lot of people that successfully transfer colleges to Warren as any engineering major, since Warren cuts their GE of Area of Focus in half for engineering majors. If you can prove to the college you want to transfer to (Warren would be your best shot) that you can graduate 2+ quarters sooner than at your current college, you might have a chance.

You won’t be able to apply for college transfer until your third quarter of your freshman year. I’m about to try in a couple of weeks, I’ll let you know how it goes.

Here’s a side-by-side comparison of all six colleges and their general education requirements:
http://admissions.ucsd.edu/dev3/colleges/bluesheet2004.pdf

if you’re any sort of science major, revelle is one of the best. i’d argue that ERC has the all-around worst GEs, since the six-quarter MMW requirement (and the impossibility of taking it at a GE) is a big blow to most people.

They said that Muir allows the most flexibility for Eng. majors to get out in four years. But you’ll never get into Muir. Too popular.

I completely understand. I am going into Structural Engineering, got placed in Revelle, which has one of the most difficult GE requirements, and badly wanted to switch out. When I went to admit day last weekend I asked as many students and advisors on their opinion and advice on how I might be able to switch. They said it’s difficult but possible. Let me know if you make the switch I’ll keep you updated and let you know how I’m getting:)

wow same deal with me

going into computer engineering, enrolled at ERC too
glad to see its not just me O_o

Do you want to switch with me I’m in Revelle

finding a switching “partner” won’t help you one bit.
