Hello CCers,

I am only a sophomore so I am not going to post my stats. My parents have always said and stick by the fact that they won’t pay for my college unless I go to Colorado State or University of Nebraska or get a full scholarship. I really don’t want to go to either of those universities so how hard is it to get a fu scholarship to a university overseas like the University of Hong Kong or London U, or even the University of Washington?

Thank you so much!

Unless you have the numbers to qualify for an auto award, it’s very difficult. I think you are very fortunate to have a couple of colleges that your parents are willing to pay for.

It is very hard to get a FULL scholarship. These require tippy top stats at the places that award them. Most require a separate application process to get these awards. Full scholarships (those that pay tuition, room, board and fees) are not plentiful.

This is not completely impossible, but would be a long shot.

university overseas like the University of Hong Kong or London U, or even the University of Washington?

Very hard to get a full scholarship to go overseas.

I don’t think UWash has any full scholarships for OOS students…maybe not for instate either.

Often you have to be a NMF to have a better chance at a full ride or near full ride. Study for the PSAT and take in October of junior year. Make sure you do that.

Do your parents know that they’d have to pay high OOS costs for UN or CSU? Do they know how much that is??? Are these your parents’ colleges?

Try to take the PSAT as a sophomore to get a sense where you stand, though it doesn’t count for NM. The % of students that get full rides is minuscule, having said that great grades and test scores can bring significant scholarship money, but mostly at private schools to bring the cost in line with public schools. U of Washington doesn’t give a lot of scholarship money in or out of state. Are you in state for Colorado? Great choices available depending on your major.
