Im going to be taking a class at Stern during the summer and I am wondering if it is extremely difficult to earn an A in their classes. I don’t want to pay close to $5,000 to get a B or a B+.

What are your thoughts?

I don’t know how the grading is in Summer courses, but getting an A during the regular school season is very hard because of the grading curve. I’ve heard that a 97 would sometimes equate to a B+.

That has to be some form of an exaggeration…

…right?

in the rare case a 97 could be an A- (wouldnt be a B) and a 93 could be a B+. this happens because the teacher can only give like 35% As, but in an easy class more than half can get in teh 90s. however, the dean has been cracking down on teachers like this and forcing them to make those classes tougher so the curve doesnt screw anyone like that. so yea, those cases happened the first year or so the curve was introduced, but not so much anymore.

if you are really motivated you should be able to get an A in almost every class at stern. the material is not overtly conceptually difficult. if you dont leave everthing for the last minute, study and keep up with the material, can manage your time well, know when to stay in and study, and are decently smart, you should be fine.

i took two summer classes at Steinhardt, and as a general comment about summer classes, the professors usually grade much easier than during the year. (there’s usually a mix of people in a summer class, from other universities, high schoolers, etc.)

HOWEVER, when each class session is equivalent to a WEEK during the school year, you have to keep up with everything. i was reading a 100 pages a night for my classes. (the culture industries/ advertising and society) if you’re going to take summer classes, be very aware that while the material won’t be conceptually difficult, keeping up with the reading will be. it’s SO tempting to put everything off, especially during the summer in Manhattan.

Luckily for me I wont need to stay in NYC
