I am a non-cali resident.
around what stats do you need?

S got in EE for Fall 2010 OOS
2120 SAT
720, 670 SATII
10/425ish
4.0 UW

Try this: [UC Admissions Statistics](http://www.ophs.opusd.k12.ca.us/uc_admissions_statistics.htm)

Is there huge emphasis on ECs?

I got in OOS from Georgia with a 2190 SAT, 700 bio subject test, and 670 literature. 3.95UW and top 10% of my class. My essays were “beyond outstanding”, though. (Not trying to brag; that’s what my counselor told me.)

As for EC’s, I don’t have stellar ones but the things I do have I’ve been doing for 3+ years. I think they (and every college) would prefer commitment over quantity of ECs.

Depends on your major. A high GPA is very advisable, and other things are a plus. But the former is quite advisable if you want a reasonably certain chance.

Here in NorCal there were a lot of acceptances this year with SAT’s in 1800’s and gpa’s of 3.2 (average). These kids had no athletics or many EC’s. For whatever reason it was really easy to get in for fall 2010. (At least 15 kids from local large public school had these stats and were admitted)

I’m an OOS admit from Colorado.

SAT I : 2100
SAT II: 590 World History, 730 Math II, 730 - Bio M
GPA: 4.0UW/4.4W
Rank: 1/453
AP Classes: ten total, including this year (five tests completed, though)
EC’s: Nothing major, really. They were all focussed on my passion (medicine/science), though.

Good luck!

I got in as an OOSer from New York.
SAT: 2010
Critical reading- 640
Math- 660
Writing- 710
SAT IIs: 540 Spanish with listening, 650 English
GPA: 96.5/100
Class Rank: Top 2%
Great extra-curriculars with many leadership roles
very good essays.

I was very surprised I got accepted, as my SATs are sub-par, but it just goes to show you that UC Berkeley absolutely looks at the application holistically. Best of luck!

Social engineering - the desire to admit a certain slice of students from every geography in the state as well as to help someone who faced disadvantages or adversity. That means that Cal might accept much lower stats at a crappy (forgive me, used the term just for literary effect) high school than other students from a very competitive and high performing school.

If it were otherwise, they might take a quarter of the graduating class from the top 5% of high schools in the state and almost nobody else. That is seen as unfair, penalizing those who didn’t have the advantage of attending the better schools.

i think UCB really really looks at things that make u diff from other ppl, and if u had a problem that may have caused lower sat scores or grades, they’ll take that into consideration.

UCB was the ONLY school out of all that i applied, that i got in mostly because of a disability that affected my school work/sat scores. if i didn’t get into UCB, i would’ve ended up at a lower end school like LMU or pepperdine. i didn’t get into USC, NYU, claremont or any of those top notch colleges but UCB gave me admission! although it wasn’t a first choice, it’s awesome to get in somewhere GOOD!

It seems Cal has started to loosen admissions for kids from “wealthy” suburbs in an attempt to increase the number of full-pay students.

I’m OOS, admitted, from Florida, majoring in Poli Sci…
2140 SAT (800 CR, 610 M, 730 W)
710 Literature, 690 US History
3.7 UW, ~4.2 W GPA
9 AP classes
Just an okay class rank, not fantastic, and my extracurriculars aren’t stellar but they’re not bad either… A handful of things I was only somewhat committed to, but two things I stuck with and really enjoyed.

Im OOS from Texas. Im pretty sure I applied for Haas Business but I ended up getting into College of Letters and Science
ACT 31
SAT 1980 (yeah its not that great but I got in haha)
GPA 4.0 at the time I applied
7 APs
My Extras were really good. Cheerleading and etc.
My Essay was pretty good

I didnt think I was gonna get in but I got into both Berkeley and UCLA. Dont let your scores keep you from applying

SAT 2280
800 Chinese, 770 Math II, 760 Bio
4.26 GPA at time of application…
Extracurriculars were decent with some leadership positions
Essays were good (edited by Elite Institute too)

You apply to Haas during your sophomore year at Berkeley.

Don’t forget the most important stat for out of staters: $50K a year
