How hard is it to get Stern courses in CAS

How hard is it to get courses in Stern if you are in CAS? I read that if CAS students want to take stern courses, they have to wait until Stern is done registering. Are business courses impacted?

In my experience coming from a public university if you don’t sign up on signup day theres no chance you will be getting your classes… But I have heard at private universities, classes almost never run out.

It depends on the class.

Registration within Stern is competitive enough. Kids are strategic about when in their tenure they take certain courses because we have certain profs who are legendary and everybody wants. As an underclassman, you’re likely to never ever get the class because your registration time is so late. By junior spring or senior year you’re typically early enough among the student body to get what you want.

If it is a core course (i.e. required for all Stern kids somewhere in their four years), there’s a chance it offers a non-Stern section where we are not allowed to enroll in it at all so CAS/Steinhardt/Tisch can enroll (typically taught by a different prof) and non-Stern students are able to register at the same time they would for a class in their own school. If it is not a core course, if it is remotely popular, you will not get it. You are forced to wait a week after Stern registers to register in it.
