How hard is it to improve your ACT score by 1 point?

I would like to improve my ACT score from a 31 to a 32 (at least). My subscores were…
Writing: 35
Reading: 33
Math: 30
Science 26
How hard would it be to reach my goal of a 32?

One point isn’t much. It’s near the measurement error for the test.

I’m assuming you mean that your score of 35 is in English, not Writing. You would have to increase your total points by four to have a one point increase on your composite. That could mean bringing your science up to 30 or just increasing each test by one point, which isn’t as easy as it seems.

It’s not hard to improve your score by one point. It’s within the measurement error for the ACT as @JustOneDad
posted.

However, the Science section is the hardest section to improve your score.

@JustOneDad @MaterS @GossamerWings Do you think colleges take into account the measurement error? Ex. If a 32 is the cut off for admission or a scholarship would they give it to you if you had a 31?

Which colleges have “cut offs” for admission?

@JustOneDad I’m not aware of any but I guess what I meant to say was if they were comparing two applicants and one had a 31 and the other had a 32 (and each had nearly equal resumes otherwise), would they choose the student with the 32? (let’s just say Notre Dame, a school with an average ACT score of 33)
