I want to increase my score by 5 points and wondering if I have my work cut off for me.

A 1-2 point increase is more common.

Is that with studying?

Haha, I have to increase my score by 7! if you have work cut out for you…Whoa buddy for me!

I don’t think it will be too hard. The first time I took it I scored a 25. I didn’t study and took it again the next time and made a 29. So thats +4 without studying… but I’m sure if you study you can bring it up 5 points. I know thats what I’m going to try to do this time.

It depends what you have now. For example, getting a let’s say 21 to a 26 is MUCH easier than getting a 31 to a 36.

I went from a 32 (36 E, 33 M, 29 R, 28 S) to a 35 (35 E, 35 M, 35 R, 36 S) by going from no studying to moderate prep with the ACT red book. I pulled reading up 7 points and science up 8 points just by knowing what the format was, how much time I was going to have and what I needed to do.

I would agree with LightSource in that improving lower scores is much easier than improving higher scores simply because the difference between a 33 and a 34/35/36 can be a mere one or two questions.

Also, I am a believer that there is only so much preparation one should do for a standardized test. If weeks upon weeks of intense preparation yield the same score three times, the chances of magically going up five points for the fourth test are slim (though I am sure there are exceptional cases). At that point, I would evaluate my college options and spend the time instead enhancing other parts of my resume.

True. Ok. guys, thanks for your input.
I think I can raise my score from a 23 to 28.

Haha, I raised 12 points in 1.5 years. LOL

How much effort would it take to raise my score from a 30 to a 34? I didn’t study and took it as a sophomore, if that means much.

^^^^^^
Whats your breakdown?

For me, I took it for the first last june and I got a 31 comp but 27 E (11 essay), 32 M, 33S, 32 R.

English and math are my best subjects, I just ran out of time because I wasn’t aware of the format.

So it really depends on what each individual score is because if you have a low score in something you are bad at, it is much harder to improve than if you have a low score in something you do generally well at.

i went from a 27 to a 31 so a 5 pt increase should be possible. just get 2-3 review books

I went from a 28 in summer of 09 to 29 in oct 09 to 32 in summer 10.

so 28 to 32 in a year.

Im retakeing mine this coming fall. Hopeing to get the bump to at least a 29 though a 30 would be nice!!

Good luck everyone!
