how hard is McCombs instate?

how hard is McCombs instate?

What do you need to get in?

you need to start looking at other people’s threads about “chances” for mccombs.

I will answer based on what I have read on this site - if you are in the top 1-3% of your graduating class (instate) then you are pretty much a shoe-in. If you are lower than that, then you need high test scores to push you above others. If you are lower than 6% or so, it gets pretty tough, although there are posters who have gotten in. I think it may help to apply early, but I don’t know for sure. Apparently, they fill 75% of the class with kids starting at 1% and moving down, after 75% of the class is filled, they begin to look at other factors, such as test scores.

Suffise it to say, it is the most difficult of the ug schools at UT to get into. If I have given you any incorrect info, somebody will, I’m sure, post a correction.

Probably the hardest to get into, but it’s no Owen School…they take about 370 tranfers alone. Not exclusive at all.

i meant it’s the hardest school UT

yet, The Owen School at Vanderbilt is far more exclusive and better

How is this Owen School better than McCombs? I have never even heard of it nor have I ever seen it in any rankings.

I agree with tripperian35…

Actually, I think Fine Arts is the most competitive school at UT.

Off topic, but…
kcirsch, I think it was u who I asked about double majoring in finance and accounting, well I found out that u cant double major in McCombs, but u can do a minor. And they said that all I need to get a minor is to do 3 more hours worth of credits, because finance and accounting has a lot of the same classes. Isnt that like just one extra class?

No tripperian you can do a double major. During orientation I asked both my peer advisor and academic advisor that I wanted to major in finance and one of accounting or BHP (If i get in sophmore year). Both responded that with my credits I’m getting from IB/AP that the process is entirely manageable and actually encouraged.

at my orientation, they told me what tripperian35 is saying…you cant major in two fields within the same school…atleast for mccombs, that is

Interesting I heard the opposite.

Hmm, interesting. Well maybe I’ll call them again today.

I know for a fact this doesn’t apply to COLA but I didn’t think it applied to Business either

you can’t double within mccombs, UNLESS you are bhp. so the only way of doubling in mccombs would be bhp+ another bba field(accounting, finance, erb, mis). I want to do both erb and accountig and they say you can’t double within mccombs if you aren’t honors. its also on the website. but for anyone considering doubling with finance and something else, i would reccomend making your bba “the sommething else” (accounting, management…) and double in Econ in CoLA. unless you really have your mind set on one of the fnance tracks.

Why do u reccomend that?

That made almost no sense at all. You should major in what you are interested in and what suits your future career goals the best.

i agree, i was just saying that if you want to double in say mis and finance for example. Mccombs doesn’t let you double in business, but does let you double major outside of mccombs. I would consider doing MIS in mccombs and Econ in CoLA. you could do finance in mccombs but there is nothing similar to MIS except comp. sci & comp engineerig and both require a-lot of extra units. I wanted to do civil engin, but I need 46 extra units.
