how hard was it to get the scholarships on the Dec 10 deadline?

Well, looking at my financial aid, I might be regretting not applying to the Dec 10th deadline last year. How hard do you think it was if hypothetically I sent my application on the 10th (1940 SAT, 3.6 UW GPA, IB diploma, 2 VP club positions, piano awards, ~100k income)?

IMHO- unless you had some additional very unique hook, it wouldn’t have happened.

I agree with cc411, without a NMF or some other academic distinction it would have been minimal at best. SATs are below the range of those admitted in the first two waves (who seem to have received most of the merit money), and so is the GPA. ECs will never override academic accomplishment, no matter how impressive. IMO colleges use ECs merely as a distinction between two approximately equally matched candidates.

agreed.
most of the scholarship invites I’ve met during my visit were considering the likes of HYPS, or got some prestigious scholarship else where.
Westinghouse semi-/finalists were common-place.
the word “inadequate” was quite accurate in describing what i was feeling @ the time.

Lol, yeah, the people at the Trustee interviews were CRAZY. I didn’t get such a stats-intensive crowd because I was with the Annenberg people, but still, some crazy ass statistics. They also said essays played a HUGE role in it.

Alright. At least I don’t have to regret not applying to Dec 10. For continuing student scholarships, when can you start applying for those…after your freshman year?
