My friend told me that he developed a software product from scratch learning coding on his own. I think it was a mobile application or website. He also said that his product somehow helped the society. Once he launched his product, he crowdfunded his application by approximately 2000 people.
Do you think this is a good spike in the RD 2020 cycle of admissions especially the crowdfunding part for Ivy leagues?
I thought he quit the idea but somehow he pulled it of in the last few months. IDK if he will compete with me if we apply to the same college.
@skieurope any comment on this?

You mean a tip? Crowdfunding? Nah. Good spike? Not really. You seem to be focusing on the $ source. The top colleges aren’t looking for preformed business folks or how much they earned. Or making admit decisions based on how feasible or successful a venture is.
For apps, put the effort into learning what matters most to your targets. Sure, do a venture on the side. But understand what really tips. The top colleges tend to see themselves as a four year academic experience. A community that functions well together.
