How High Schools Rank

I just had a question about high school rankings. My school doesn’t do it (except for finding out who the valedictorian is), but are rankings based on weighted or unweighted gpa? I would imagine that it would be weighted because a student could take all regular courses and get A’s while someone else takes AP’s and gets A’s, but they would still have the same unweighted gpa.

It depends on the school. I think, for the most part, a lot of the competitive high schools do weighted GPAs. Non-competitive schools, such as mine, don’t. So yes, an A in a regular class had the same effect as an A in an AP class. As a result, we had 9 valedictorians.
