How Hot is it where you are?

Ok
I am not complaining- I think it has been mid 70s here.
This weekend however, I will be heading into the hottest part of Washington to go camping! and to see a concert- predictions there are for 107.F

My older D is coming up to stay with her sister ( and glad to escape Portland which gets hotter than Seattle), & I have prepared for them, by setting the tent up in the backyard( we don’t have air & house gets very hot).

BUt I am not really sure how to prepare to be outside all day in triple digits- I am assuming it will be too hot to eat let alone cook, which is good because all my standard camping fare sounds awful for hot weather ( any suggestions?)

Everyone with more experience than I- what do you do?

Keep back of neck cool, if getting to hot, a damp rag there helps alot

Sandwiches
Fruit
Popcycles
Daytime movies
the mall

Most importanly, check on elderly neighbors, they are the ones that get forgotten in heat and can succumb easily

I know in sme cities, seniors are being taken to office buildings, etc to sit in the lobbies with the airconditioning

Well, yet another summer with record breakng heat…

HA! You think washington is hot. In Texas, we are breaking records. It was 85 degrees yesterday morning, and I don’t even want to know how hot it got during the afternoon. Suffice it to say I was wearing two shirts and it sucked balls.

Seriously, my husband almost had heatstroke on Sunday mowing the lawn. And that in the snowbelt! He scared me!

I noticed yesterday on the news casts that while we were at a balmy 95 degrees, the rest of the country had many readings of 100 or more. We are used to it here (95 with the humidity index feels around 100) and have air conditioning EVERYWHERE (there are even outdoor misters at patio restaurants lol). I cannot imagine you folks in the north who don’t have airconditioning in your homes! My H and S are headed up to Chicago to look at NWern and Notre Dame, AND the Astros vs. Cubs game tomorrow afternoon. They’ll feel right at home!

First day after the recent heat wave in NYC followed by a big thunderstorm last night in the tri-state area that knocked out trees and powerlines. Last week there was a tornado in westchester county. I guess lately there has been a lot of talk about the weather.

Who would have thought that you would be happy to have an 85 degree day?

Okay, why in the world was he mowing the lawn…

Is this normal weather?

citygirlsmom:
Good question! Why wasn’t one of my kids doing it???!!!

My H and kids take shifts edging and mowing. My H will go out and edge, then youngest S blows the debris, then my oldest mows. I will come into the den periodically and find all 3 of them laying on the couches and chairs looking like drowned rats from all the sweat! It’s got to be done!

I’m lucky that I picked “home and hearth” and not “lawn and garden” :)

I also would wonder about mowing the lawn- I water my beds in the summer but not the grass, so except for the beginning of summer when it is still green,it doesn’t grow much.

Emeraldkity:
So this is the weekend for The Gorge? Go to the sporting goods store and get a neck cooler that will last longer than a wet towel are around your neck. Stay in the shade as much as possible. Drink lots of water. Avoid alcohol. Wear sunscreen. Re-apply often. Wear a big hat. Bring super soakers and have a water fight! Food is tough when it’s hot. All I ever want is plain salad, ice pops, frozen grapes & watermelon.
Central Washington is DRY heat. We had three days of 90s with high humidity and no air movement. Really awful, but better than -20 with ice storms or the 9 inches of rain we had in June.
BTW there is no place on earth better than Seattle when it’s in the 70s.

yesterday in CT- 99 and incredibly humid. gross.

I am just so glad that there’s no such thing as Global Warming. We are already having a new record every year for average global temperatures. Already the glaciers and ice caps are melting. Already the oceans are getting warmer and the storms stronger. JUST THINK what it would be like if we added Global Warming to what’s happening now. Of course we all know that Al Gore and all his cronies are laughing their butts off now because they think they can use this as proof, but we all know that there IS NO GLOBAL WARMING. And if any NOAA or NWS or EPA scientists try to imply otherwise, we’ll just edit the reports to reflect the TRUTH!

-GWB

FREAKIN hot outside.

digmedia, hey, I was trying SO hard not to go there!!! You have opend the door and I am glad!!

Yeah, year after year of record breaking heat…but as soon as it snows, the denial starts

super soakers is a great idea
I wouldn’t have thought of that :)

I figured since the Gorge is usually windy it wouldnt be too bad- I am freezing bottles of water to take with us in case the campground runs out of ice

We just bought a new tent which is for backpacking and is 2/3s screen. My husband wanted to see how the rain fly worked- & I told him * if it is 103- I am not putting on the rain fly!!* everyone is going to be 1/2 naked anyway, what does it matter if they see us in our tent?;)

I really, really hope though, that nobody brings their dogs- the campground allows dogs & it will be strange going camping without her, but my god, it would be cruel to

Yesterday it hit 102 around 4:00, Monday it was 101…right now it’s 12:50 and 92 degrees–a respite perhaps?

What’s the concert? (Sounds fun-- thousands of half-naked, half-baked people–) You’re right about the dog, but growing up in eastern Washington, lots of people brought their SNAKES to concerts. Snakes love hot weather and rock n’roll. Watch for them in George, too. (ick)

Well the high temps didn’t seem so bad last week when we were sitting on the beach in Aruba. However, back in Madison…well that’s another issue. 89 right now. And, btw, two weeks in Aruba next year. I love timesharing.

Yesterday it was 97 in the D.C. area. Today we should only be in the high 80’s or low 90’s. I cut my grass this morning and it wasn’t too bad. Still I’m looking forward to getting in the pool. I leave for 2 weeks at Hilton Head on Sunday. My buddy down there said it’s only supposed to be in the mid-80’s to low 90’s there. Very mild for Hilton Head in July/Aug.
