How I went from a 1730 to a 1990(= 2000) in a month!

Hey everyone!! Are you stressed about SAT preparation! Is it to the point that you are willing to do ANYTHING to get an elite score? Well if those situations depict the quandary you are in , then you have stumbled upon the right blog! Let me start off with my situation.

I signed up for my March SAT this past year! However, prior to this exam I took very little interest in preparation! Ultimately, when I received my scores and saw an abysmal 1730 score report, I knew I was going to be in trouble with my dad. And as he found found out, I realized that I needed to prepare for my next SAT.

What I used to get a 1990:

Official SAT tests: Big Blue Book/Online

  • Google: “Official SAT practice tests”

The Insider’s Complete Guide to SAT Vocabulary(The essential 500 words) by Larry Kreiger
-This was an excellent source of vocabulary words!

Khan Academy --> especially for SAT grammatical practice

  • You should be able to discern a pattern in how the answers are correct.
For example: “On the agenda of the committee were a proposal to institute a monthly newsletter and appoint an editor to oversee all aspects of its publication.”

A) were
B) to institute
C) to oversee
D) all aspects
E) No error

The error in this specific problem occurs at A, or ‘were’. The problem is that were is a reference to a subject matter that is plural (more than 2), however, this problem is referring to 2 issues. Instead of were, the word should be replaced with was for better grammatical flow.

I also used the internet to find any extra vocabulary or math practice.

For studying Math, I primarily googled important SAT formulas and memorized those, but other than that I found SAT math to be natural. I scored a 710 on the SAT Math section.

On the essay section, I organized a template that provided me with 70% of my actual essay prior to the actual exam. I also memorized examples such as Malcom X, Florence Nightingale, and Steve Jobs.

Recommendations:

  • DO NOT use any other books beside the big blue book, as these other test prep books provide questions that deviate from the actual test day questions. Using these books is about as useful as not practicing for the exam.
  • Many people recommend that you should not listen to music during preparation, but I used it! Use it if it is beneficial, but also be aware that on test day you cannot use music.
  • Study for at least 2 hours a day and at max 4 hours.
  • You CAN break actual practice SAT test into days. This allows you to get the maximum amount of focus per section, which can lead to a higher score and more confidence.
  • Once you do achieve your SAT score goal, make sure you spread the word on how to achieve to others!

Good luck to everyone out there!!
