How would an African American with a 2200 SAT score look . Even if there GPA is a 3.0 with a very rigorous course load .

The 2200 will definitely not make up for that gpa. Is there any particular reason as to why it’s that low? There’s so many other AA students that take rigorous schedules with high SATs that manage to achieve 3.8+ gpas, so it’s not really helpful. I am African American and I was accepted with a 3.95 and a rigorous schedule (ie differential equations, ap physics c, etc.), and I’m sure there’s other with those stats. You have to prove to admissions that you have a reason to be there ans you will succeed. Just because you want to go there doesn’t mean you need to go there. Cornell was never my first choice, Princeton was, but those plans fell through.

I would also suggest you assess your abilities carefully. Not to undermine any of your previous achievements but if you’re getting a 3.0 in high school (without any valid extenuating circumstances), a school like Cornell won’t be any easier. So even though Cornell may be a “dream school”, it may not necessarily be the best school.

Where does your 3.0 rank in your class? 87% of enrolling freshman last year were in the top 10% of their class 98% in the top 25%.
