I’m currently a second semester Junior. So far, my GPA has been… mediocre at best (last quarter, 3.29~ unweighted) But my grades are improving. I am planning on taking the SAT on May 1st.

I know there’s room for improvement… a LOT of improvement. But I was hoping that some of my extra-curriculars could help.

I’m currently the technical director of my high school TV show, and come next year, I will be the Executive Producer (highest position). I’m also the Technical Director of the school’s Psychology Journal, which is nationally recognized by many of the nations leading pioneers of psychology.

So basically, I know my grades are… well, not up to UC Davis standards. But how much will these ECs improve my chances? Also, my grades are only getting better and I have yet to take the SATs… I know, I shouldn’t be asking this question this early, but I’m super curious. Also, i’m out of state (Washington D.C)

Well, I always say that ECs will always help your chances, but it’s hard to say by how much. Grades and SATs scores are more important. It’s just how it works. Try hard to get a good SAT score and do everything you can to get all As from here on out.

OMG you guys made my so nervous so what are my chances at UC Davis i thought my good EC’s would make up for my gpa

when i was a freshman my parents got in an accident and i had to start taking care of my whole family. what i mean is that my chores got tripled, i needed to help my parents move through the house, and i had to walk my bro to school before i went. My school and his school are in 2 opposite directions.

i also wrote about how the envioronment i grew up in has shaped me to be a strong perservering leader and how people see me as a leader not because of my large frame ( i am 6’4) but because of the attidude and energy i generate when i am in the room.

how my parents accident coupled with my volunteering at the hospital has changed my outlook on life and how i found my true calling which is medicine because God has blessed me with intelligence and lots of empathy towards the needy and weak.

i also included in my essay a great quote from one of a famous surgeon (i am drawing a blank on his name right now) but it said " i was never the smartest in med school, but what i lacked in ability i made up with through discipline." i think this quote really applies to me and i explained why.
