Hey guys, I know this kind of thing is asked/debated all the time 'round these parts, but I worry about my transfer eligibility way too much so this is an attempt to set my mind at ease because it’s driving me crazy.
The main source of my anxiety is my GPA (and I’m sure there are many others in the same boat as me.) Basically in the fall of 2010 I found out that my girlfriend was pregnant, freaked out and failed a bunch of classes in the fall of 2010/spring 2011. I spent the next few years just working and raising my son. I also took a 6 credit hour semester in the fall of 2012 to try to get back into school, but I simply could not afford it.
Last semester I went back to school and decided that I was just going to push through it. I ended taking 14 credits and getting a 3.2 for the semester (got a C that I totally didn’t see coming in a non major class) and while that’s not awful, I was pretty disappointed in myself because I knew I could do better.
This semester has been much better. I’m taking 18 credit hours and I currently have an A in every class. And if I keep up my hard work by the time I am done at my community college I should have around a 3.67.
So just how important is an upward grade trend or other holistic factors? Do I have any shot transferring as a engineering major to places like UIUC, Berkeley, or UCLA? Or will my previous bad grades (and as a result my lower than average GPA) be a limiting factor for me when I try to transfer out?
