How important are high school grades after 3/4 years?

Hey, I tried searching to see if my question has been answered but I got some finals to study for so I’m not gonna spend too much time lookin at this site.

Anyways… I graduated high school in 2007 with a 3.7 slightly weighted and a 25 ACT. During high school I was planning on going for music so I could eventually get a job at a music studio. Needless to say, since I wasn’t planning on going to U of M (from Detroit area) or Harvard etc. I didn’t put too much focus into my studies.

All I needed to break into sound “engineering” was an associates in music + training at a specific school. So I went to a community college and did what was necessary n got a 3.6 (gpa was not important at all so I half assed some of the classes I had to take that wouldn’t help me)

Now I’m goin back to school for accounting (after a year break) and have been getting a 4.0 since then… my gpa should be around 3.8 at the end of this semester. I’m also in my cc’s honors program and a member of phi theta kappa.

I plan on transferring to Michigan and hopefully getting into Ross. After that I would like to see if getting into Columbia would be an option. I’m hoping to get into investment banking.

I was just wondering if my high school grades would have any impact on admission considering by the time I apply it will be about 4 or 5 years since then and I know that I’m about 500% smarter now than I was in high school

edit: should’ve put 4 or 5 years instead of 3/4 years lol. Didn’t think about it til after I finished it.

Don’t kid yourself. You’re probably as equally smart/dumb as you were in HS. You may be more mature, have better study habits, etc. but your raw intelligence isn’t changing much between ages 16 and 19.

lol well that’s what I was getting at. Should have phrased it as “I’m making myself look about 500% smarter now than I did in high school”

And even that’s stretching it. Mostly I feel smarter than I did during high school, mainly because of better study habits. Stuff I had a hard time understanding in high school was mainly because I just didn’t really put the time into it.

n I’m 21 btw

but what do you think about ACT scores from when I was 16/high school grades from when I was 17 affecting my admission?

You can apply for Columbia General Studies program.
