How important is high school percentile rankings?

Hi all,
I’m a high school junior, about to apply to college next year. I’d like to study physics in a good university. My only concern at the moment is that I go to a very small school (class size of 10) and I am only ranked number 2. Percentile wise, I’m not in the top 5% for my class. I would think that this might hurt my chances of admission to the top schools: MIT, Harvard, Stanford, etc. Will this hurt my college admission chances?

SAT: 2360

SAT II Math II: 800
SAT II Physics: 800

PSAT: 221

I play on my school’s basketball team and help tutor kids after school.

it’s actually pretty important. but your test scores are nice.

and your school is weird in the sense of the number of kids. so im sure the colleges will quickly realize your situation

I don’t think class rank matters if the class is less than 100 or so?

Check the common data sets to see if they care about class rank.

Your class rank may be an issue at University of Texas - Austin, though.

This star student means MIT, Harvard, Stanford

not da longhorns
